CARE & MAINTENANCE

NOW THAT YOU HAVE YOUR NEW FENCE INSTALLED, HERE ARE SOME INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO MAINTAIN IT

CLEANING & MAINTENANCE

On occasion, minor cleaning is done by spraying your fence with a garden hose. This removes common yard debris such as grass clippings, dirt and fertilizer chemicals.

  • For light cleaning, rinse with water from top to bottom. Air dry or wipe the fence the with a soft, lint free cloth
  • To remove water stains use soap and water
  • To remove minor dirt stains use a plastic safe degreaser or a 10:1 water-to-bleach mixture
  • To clean heavily soiled areas, powerwash and rinse the surface from top to bottom. Rinse any "run down" to lower parts of the fence. Do not allow soap to collect or "puddle" on surfaces
  • In coastal areas, it is recommended that you frequently spray your fence with water to reduce accumulations of salt and dirt
  • Household cleaners, abrasive agents, harsh chemicals, solvents, acids, steel wool or industrial cleaners can cause damage and discoloration to the finish of your fence. These products are NOT recommended.

NORMAL OCCURRENCES

  • Fences can expand or contract depending on weather conditions
  • Weather also contributes to problems caused by water absorption, mildew growth, and discoloration due to (but not limited to) ultraviolet rays
  • Wood fences can experience cupping, warping, twisting, checking, and splitting
  • Mildew can gather as the result of constant exposure to moist or humid conditions. Regular cleaning with a mildewcide cleaner can help maintain a clean fence
  • For ultraviolet protection, clean the fence with an ultraviolet stablizer. The stablizer will not prevent eventual discoloration, but will slow down the process. Periodic reapplication of UV stabilizer will help in this effort over an extended period of time
